A downloadable Interactive Novel

"Cry Out" is an interactive novel about cancer patient Shiloh Amsel. A "new treatment" for her condition entices her into a world of demons and possession. A twisting of science and dark magic, the best choices may not be what one may expect..

Excerpt:

The inside of the ambulance was uncomfortably quiet. Shiloh gave up on struggling against the belts holding her to the gurney, and instead stared silently up at the white roof.

Have you finally given in? a quiet, yet deep and echoing voice seemed to fill the air all around her, sending chills down Shiloh's spine. It didn't belong to either the intern nor any of the volunteers around her, and its oddly alluring nature was otherworldly.

"Who's there?" she asked with the bravest voice she could muster as she looked around everyone she could see. No one so much as looked at her.

"There"? Come now Shiloh, you're a smart girl. I'm not "there". I'm here.

Despite the cryptic words, she seemed to understand innately. It was not somebody who was physically around her. The voice was echoing within her own head, silent to everyone else nearby. But there was no way this voice was coming from her own mind, unless she had finally gone completely off the deep end. Maybe the cancer cells had finally made their way to her brain?

So logical. You think you can explain me away?

"Who are you?" she whispered, unable to keep her voice from shaking ever so slightly.

We met last night, don't you remember?

Her dream returned to her in a flash. How had she forgotten? It had left her so shaken, the chills had remained long after she had awoken.

"You're..."

Option 1: Say his name

"Aim."

The voice gave a chuckle that froze her to the bone.

Haven't you heard its bad luck to utter the name of a demon?

Option 2: Say nothing

As if the sound caught in her throat, Shiloh's mouth hung open slightly as instinct warned her away from the utterance. The voice chuckled.

Indeed. I am the demon Aim, and you will be my hands in this world.

  • Cry Out as a project is still in the works, but it’s going to have a massive overhaul. With some time away from it, I’ve come back realizing that a ton of the plans I had from the very beginning are not exactly great at best, and incredibly illogical or nonsensical at worst. There are so many fundamental changes that need to be made that it’d almost be for the best to shut this page down and start a new one. Whole characters are being changed or removed, mechanics are more thought out to avoid annoying or down right chasing away players, and concept art has to be majorly updated. I’ve decided to double down on layering stories within this story, because that’s the kind of subtle mystery I enjoy in games. Some things, like my intent to use sound effects in place of background music or the basic game play mechanics will be maintained. However, to top everything off, I’m basically starting all my work on both the writing and coding from scratch, because of inklewriter moving to the ink program, and also because I changed computers and forgot to snag the old Renpy file. Honestly, I’ll probably continue to use this page, but expect eventually to see big changes, from the header images to the excerpt all the way down to where you can find me. I’ve decided Ron get really serious about this project, and hopefully I’ll see far more progress coming very soon.
